The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has officially adopted a clear definition of Women-Owned Businesses (WOB) to promote gender inclusion and ensure targeted support for women entrepreneurs.

According to the ACCI, WOBs are defined as:
• Women as sole proprietors
• Companies or partnerships that are more than 51% owned by women.

This was contained in a statement by Amina A. Samuel, Asst. Media Officer, ACCI.

This definition sets a standard for recognizing and empowering women-led enterprises, ensuring they receive adequate representation in policy discussions, business support programs, and funding opportunities.

The development was discussed during the recently concluded 2nd Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) workshop on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Public Procurement, organized by ACCI with support from the Investment Climate Reform Facility (ICRF). The workshop brought together stakeholders from both public and private institutions.

Speaking at the event, Barr. (Mrs.) Roseline Obiageli Nwosu, Vice President of ACCI Women Development and Gender Matters, emphasized that defining WOBs is crucial in bridging the economic gap for female entrepreneurs.

This initiative aligns with ACCI’s commitment to fostering an inclusive business environment where women can thrive as business leaders, innovators, and contributors to national economic growth.
