The President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, has advocated for an economy powered by clean, efficient, and accessible energy.

The President made the remarks Thursday at the launch of the Energy Efficiency Awareness Campaign with the theme “Empower Your Business: Save Energy, Boost Profits.”

According to him, the world is undergoing a major energy transition, and Nigeria must not be left behind.

He said energy is no longer just a cost of doing business, it has become a catalyst for competitiveness, innovation, and inclusive development.

The President noted that the campaign represents a pivotal step in the ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable business practices, enhancing operational efficiency, and empowering enterprises, especially small and medium-sized businesses, to thrive through smarter energy use.

He noted that “Today marks an important milestone, not only for the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry but also for the future of Nigerian businesses and our collective journey toward a more sustainable and resilient economy.”

He pointed out that campaign, spearheaded by ACCI’s National Policy Advocacy Centre (NPAC), is designed to educate, empower, and equip Nigerian businesses, especially SMEs, with the knowledge and tools needed to embrace energy efficiency and adopt renewable energy solutions.

“At ACCI, our mandate is clear: to promote sustainable commerce, business innovation, and economic prosperity. Sustainability and green growth are at the core of our activities. Through NPAC, we actively advocate for sound energy policies that support the transition to a green economy. Through our partnerships, we connect the private sector with opportunities in green finance, technology, and clean energy solutions” he stressed.

The Executive Director, NPAC, Mr. Chidiebere Onwumere said the launch of the campaign marked a significant step forwards commitment to sustainable economic growth, responsible business practices, and environmental stewardship in Nigeria.

He pointed out that across Nigeria, thousands of small and medium enterprises are grappling with high energy costs that limit their growth potential.

Onwumere noted that the campaign is of the Chamber’s integral part of its “Green Energy Initiative for 2025”, designed to educate, equip, and empower businesses to take decisive action.

He said over the next six months, NPAC will be rolling out series of impactful activities, from workshops and public education to energy audits and hands-on training sessions.

The Director General, ACCI, Mr. Agabaidu Jideani noted that the campaign marked a pivotal step in the journey toward sustainable business practices and economic resilience.

He said ACCI is not just unveiling a campaign, but a catalysing a shift, a shift toward smarter energy use, lower operational costs, and a greener future.

“We believe that the success of our economy is intrinsically linked to how efficiently we utilise energy, particularly within the SME sector, which remains the backbone of our national development,” he stressed.

He pointed out that the objectives of the campaign among others are to educate SMEs on the economic and environmental benefits of energy efficiency; promote renewable energy, particularly solar power, as a viable and cost-effective alternative, encourage the adoption of practical, energy-saving technologies and ultimately, to foster economic growth through responsible, energy-smart business practices.
