Adamawa State House of Assembly is set to repeal the Local Government Administration, System and Establishment Law 2000 to pave way for tenure elongation of local government council chairmen from two to three years.

This followed a letter by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, seeking the repeal a law that will allow for the extension of the  tenure read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley.

The assembly has since committed the proposed bill to the Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for scrutiny.

In a reaction of the development, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Geoffrey Bulus, who represents Leko-Koma State Constituency commended the effort of the Governor.

A Member of the Committee and Chairman House Committee of Public Service, Public Petitions and Electoral Matters, Hon. Bulus Kantomon representing Shelleng State Constituency described the letter and steps by the assembly as a welcome development.
