Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State Wednesday amid social distancing to curb the spread of Covid-19, inaugurated the state community policing advisory committee and the state community policing committee in Adamawa.
The committees which are the first of their kinds in the state are geared towards improving the relationship between the police and members of the public to improve public safety and boost security in the state.
This was contained in a statement by Muhammad B. Tukur, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media.
The Governor who inaugurated the committees in the Banquet Hall Government House, Yola, marks another milestone in improving security in line with his administration policy that has accord security the major priority.
He revealed that immediately after assuming office the need to restore the lost glory of the state informed his move to visit hideouts of criminals with a view to dislodge them and ensure normalcy across the nooks and crannies of the state.
The Governor said the community policing is not an alternative for the police but an advisory body meant to interface between the police and the community hence the call on all key stakeholders to brace up and support the initiative.
Governor Umaru Fintiri pointed out that the committees will improve public safety and are the best strategy to checkmate crime and criminality in order to boost security throughout in the state.
In his remark, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Mr Olugbenga Adeyanju who noted that security is a serious business and should not be left in the hands of mediocre, Commended the Fintiri led administration for according the sector the needed support.
Mr Adeyanju advocated for pragmatic support to ensure the success of the community policing in the state and lauded various stakeholders for embracing the system which encourages the community to take their safety with all seriousness being a part of the society.
Contributing, Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Maurice Dankwambo appreciated the Fintiri-led administration for according the police the necessary support and called on the Governor to sustain the momentum for the betterment of Adamawa.
The State Chairmen of Muslim Council Alhaji Gambo Jika and his counterpart of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza who are Members of the advisory committee lauded the initiative which they said will go a long way In ridding the state of criminality.
