Adamawa Governor, Fintiri declares teachers’ free Day

Adamawa State, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has pledged the next year celebration of Teachers’ Day
shall be colourful and declared workers free day so that the date do
not conflict the NECO JSCE examinations .
Fintiri made the declaration during the occasion of this year Teachers Day in Yola, Adamawa state capital.
He stressed that teachers remain the nation and character moulders of
the society in all ramifications.
‘’He observed that, this year theme therefore see teachers at the
heart of education to recover and aptly captures and addressed the
devastating impact of Boko Haram and Covid-19 pandemic and gradual
neglect of teachers over the years’’
While assuring the Teacher of their important, he said the ‘’be
assured that you will get all what you put across especially the
problems facing the teachers in the state ranging from non
implantation of National minimum wage to primary school teachers.
And ‘’lack of promotions to primary school teachers for15 years, non
implementation of promotions benefits to secondary school teachers,
non payment of annual increment to bpth primary and secondary school
teachers and non training and re-training of teachers across the state
for over twenty years.
The Governor also noted that, ‘’the 2021 celebration is come and gone,
i want to assure you that next year WTD 2022 will be declared workers
free day if the date do not conflict the NECO JSCE.
He said, ‘’the teachers remain tangle for the last ten year and i have
uproot their non promotions and call for your understanding, you are
in place to impact knowledge to the students though said you are aware
that promotion of teachers in secondary schools are done and that is
why we have trained over ten thousand (10,000) teachers in primary and
secondary in the state.
Speaking earlier, the chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Comrade
Rodney Nathan commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his holistic
approach in solving the challenges of education in the state
particularly those primary and post primary schools.
Nathan said, for the first time in the recent past development of
education has gone beyond the political motivated contracts to be the
first governor to approve the educational five years of service
primary and secondary teachers in the state.
He pleaded with Governor for the stability in the payment teachers’
salaries, provision of instructional materials in schools, provision/
promotions of teachers to the rank of permanent secretaries and
proactive policies for the security of teachers and learners across
all schools in the state.
NUT chairman pointed some of their challenges for non payment national
minimum wage to primary school teacher, lack of promotions of primary
school teachers for 15 years, non implementation of promotions
benefits to secondary teachers, also non payment annual increment to
both primary and secondary teachers and non training and retraining of
teachers across the state for over twenty years.
He therefore said that the governors impact on the teachers, ‘’we are
indebted to this administration and after addressing our above
mentioned problems or at least some of the pressing ones will be
highly indebted to you and your administration.
