Adamawa Governor Fintiri receives federal government relief items for Garkida attack

The Federal Government Sunday provided eight trucks loaded of consumable relief materials to the victims of Garkida attacks in Gombi local government, where suspected Boko Haram insurgents recently invaded the area and caused a lot of devastation.
This was contained in a statement by Muhammad B. Tukur, SSA New Media to the Governor of Adamawa State.
The materials donated included twenty five kilogram of three thousand bags of rice, three thousand pieces of blanket, two thousand pieces of rubber mats, two thousand five hundred and fifty bags of beans, and two hundred cantons of maggi cubes.

Others were one hundred bags of salt, one thousand cartons each of spaghetti and macaroni, five hundred bags of flour, three thousand gallons of vegetable oil, two thousand pieces of wrappers and five hundred cartoons of tomatoes paste.
Presenting the materials at the central stores of North East Development Commission in Yola, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadia Umar Farouq said the materials provided were to bring succor to the victims.
Hajiya Farouq said after conveying the items to Garkida tomorrow Monday, the ministry will work with the State Emergency Management Agency to carry out the needs assessment of the affected community so that federal government will rebuild the damage social infrastructure among others.
Receiving the materials, Governor Umaru Fintiri thanked the federal government for the timely provision of the relief materials which he noted will cushion the hardships of the victims and promised that the items will be judiciously distributed for the purpose intended.
The Governor revealed that state government and North East Development Commission will soon commence rehabilitation of the damaged infrastructure in Garkida with a view to bring back normalcy and avoid unnecessary Internally Displaced Persons IDPs camp in the state.
Contributing, the Chairman of the North East Development Commission Retired Major General Paul Tarfa commended Governor Umaru Fintiri and the federal government for their quick response and pledged the intervention of the commission in rebuilding Garkida.
Meanwhile, the minister had earlier paid a courtesy call to Governor Umaru Fintiri in the Presidential Lodge, Government House, Yola where she intimated him about her mission in Yola and sympathized with victims of Garkida attacks and Adamawa State government over the unfortunate incident.
Responding, Governor Umaru Fintiri appreciated the efforts of the federal government and disclosed that his administration has made efforts in the fight against all forms of criminality in Adamawa by given members of vigilante group incentives to complement the efforts of security.
He stressed that fighting against insurgency is a collective responsibility, urging especially the media to avoid publicizing negative information about the menace but teem up with government and other relevant agencies towards ending insurgency in the country.
