Adamawa governor Fintiri warns communities not to take laws into own hands as communal clashes engulf Guyuk, Lamurde

Properties and lives are feared to have been lost after a violent clash between two tribes in Adamawa State resulted in attacks which also displaced a lot of people in many communities in Lamurde and Guyuk local government areas.

It was gathered that indigenous Lunguda tribe and their Waja settlers in Lafiya town under Lamurde local government area of the state engaged each other in overnight violent confrontation over land dispute.

Over five villages namely Mamsirme, Boshikiri, Zakawon and Burti villages have been burnt to ashes.

Domestic animals and foodstuffs were also destroyed in the mayhem, which lasted several hours, before the security agencies brought the situation under control.

The conflict, was said to have been sparked by dispute over farmland ownership, causing the distraction of lives and property worth millions of naira.

Adamawa state Deputy Governor Chief, Crowther Seth, in company of the Brigade Commander of the 23 brigade Yola, Brigadier General Sani Gambo Mohammed, the Secretary to the State Government Bashiru Ahmad, the Commissioner for Education Hon Wilbina Jackson, Member Representing Guyuk Hon. Adwawa Dongolok and the Chairmen of both Lamurde and Guyuk, visited the scene, in the early hours of Wednesday for a on the spot assessment.

The Deputy Governor, who assured that government will investigate and bring perpetrators to book, warned against further escalation of the violence.
