The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the immediate and unconditional removal of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barrister Hudu Yunusa over alleged electoral malpractices involved in the inconclusive gubernatorial election.
PDP stated emphatically that, it has completely lost confidence in the Resident Electoral Commissioner and will have nothing to do with him henchforth.
Spokesman of the PDP and deputy Director General of Presidential and Governorship Organisation, Chief Felix Tangwami who stated this in a press conference in Yola noted that the REC colluded with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in an attempt to ridicule democracy.
According to Tangwami, the action and inaction of the REC and INEC in general amounts to compromising their status as umpire.
His words, “The Resident Electoral Commissioner through the Returning Officer of the Governorship elections had earlier announced that the re run is 69 polling units, but REC later wrote to the INEC Headquarters in Abuja claiming that the re run will hold in 77 polling units”.
The Party accordingly said, after the Collation of the results in 20 of the 21 local government areas of the State, it candidate and Governor Fintiri was leading by a wide margin but the REC allegedly directed the Returning Officer, Dr Bashir Danejo for Fufore to ensure that he change the figure of the two candidates in favour of APC candidate.
The party also alleged that it was at that juncture the figures of the APC candidate was raised to above 37,000 while that of the PDP was reduced to only 7,000.
They claimed that it was the increase and decrease that brought about the issue of inconclusive following order hatch plans to scuttle the election.
The party asked why Mr Hudu Yunusa, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) not be remanded for electoral offenses by the headquarters of INEC, nor recalled out of Adamawa as was the case of counterpart in Sokoto State.
It equally asked of who gave the instructions for Hudu Yunusa from above which he passed to the Returning Officer of Fufore to ensure that the candidate of APC by all means emerge as the Governor elect of Adamawa State.
The party concluded that already their team of lawyers have already been put in place to challenge the alleged anomalies by the Adamawa REC, Barrister Hudu Yunusa and the State Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Mele.
