After 100 years, Catholic Church establishes printing press in Cross River

By Akpan David, Calabar

The Catholic Church in the Ogoja Diocese has now established a printing press after 100 years of its existence in that part of Northern Cross River State.

In a brief opening speech, Very Rev Fr Matthew Otuji, Chancellor of the Diocese commended the untiring effort of Most Rev Donatus Edet Akpan, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja who passionately facilitated the project which was conceived only about 36 months ago.

Most Rev Akpan cuts the tape to formally declare open the gate of the Ogoja Diocesan Press.

He said it is something of immense joy that after more than a hundred years of existence, at last, it has a Printing Press, an ultra modern one at that.

The entrance to the office complex is just by the Blessed Virgin Mary T -Junction  on  approach to Cathedral premises from the ODAIP axis.

The Managing Director of the outfit, Italian trained Media Expert, Rev Fr Luke Odey PhD says the Press has the most modern digital equipment in place, and is ready to handle as many jobs as they come.

The Bishop thanked every one who has contributed to the coming to life of the Ogoja Diocesan Press.

The highlight of the event was the Bishop taking a seat on the Control desk to press the button for the roiling out of a set of stickers from the Press.
