The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Onitsha, has significantly enhanced its emergency and surgical care services following the donation of specialized airway management equipment by the Society of Specialists in Airway Management of Nigeria.
The donation was formally presented at the hospital and received by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Mercy Anugwu, who described the gesture as both timely and impactful.
She noted that the equipment would immediately improve the hospital’s capacity to manage critical and emergency cases, especially those requiring advanced airway support.
“Effective airway management is central to emergency medicine and anaesthetic practice. This donation will greatly strengthen service delivery in our operating theatres and the Accident and Emergency Unit,” Dr. Anugwu said.
Speaking on behalf of the association, Dr. Arinze Nwosu explained that the initiative was facilitated by AirWay Development Incorporated in partnership with the Society of Specialists in Airway Management.
He emphasized that the equipment is vital for the management of patients with compromised airways, a key requirement in both surgical and emergency care.
“Our objective is to build capacity, improve efficiency, and ultimately enhance patient outcomes in healthcare facilities such as FMC Onitsha,” Dr. Nwosu stated.
The management of FMC Onitsha expressed gratitude to the Society for the donation and called for increased collaboration and partnerships to further improve healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
