‘All abducted GGCSS Maga school girls regain freedom from captivity unhurt’

‎Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has on Tuesday formally announced the release of the 25 abducted students of GGCSS Maga at a News briefing in Birnin Kebbi after spending eight days in captivity.

‎He said: “We are very happy to announce the release of students abducted from the Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. We’ve received credible report that our security agencies based on the order of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the rescue of the girls, all of them have been rescued in good health.”

‎The Governor added that: “They are on their way to the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, also, their parents are on their way to the capital, and by Wednesday, we shall reunite them with their families. I thank President Tinubu for his concern for Kebbi State, since the abduction of the girls, Mr. President has been up and doing to ensure that the girls are rescued”.


‎He showed appreciation to security agencies such as the Police, the DSS, the Military, the Civil Defence and others for being alive to their responsibilities as they did not take the order of Mr. President lightly, they have been following what’s happening professionally, we thank aall of them”.

‎Governor Idris said his Government was proud of the patience and perseverance shown by the parents of the abductees as well as the people of state during the trying times of the incidence, saying Government had justified the confidence reposed in it.

‎He however disclosed that: “I want to take this opportunity to make it clear that no compensation was paid as condition for their release. Kebbi State Government did not give out one Kobo, and the security agencies confirmed to me that they did not give any money”.

‎Governor Idris also expressed appreciation to all individuals and groups who offered prayers and support during the ordeal, as well as those who sympathised with the state over the death of the school’s vice principal and the private security guard.

‎“We thank everyone who prayed day and night for the safe return of our daughters. We thank the security agencies, Mr. President, and all well-wishers from across the country who stood by us,” he stated.
