Alleged $300 fraud: Court remands applicant in EFCC custody
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered that an applicant, Abayomi Hakeem, who pleaded guilty to internet fraud and defrauding an American of 300 dollars, be remanded in EFCC custody.
Hakeem pleaded guilty to impersonation and extortion.
He admitted that sometime in 2019, he impersonated an American, Mr Will Marshal on Google mail (Gmail) and fraudulently obtained the amount.
Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered that Hakeem be remanded untill sentencing according to the plea bargain he entered into with the EFCC.
“He should remain in the custody of the prosecution until agreement is met,”he ordered.
He acknowledged that the 300 was recovered from Hakeem and returned to the victim.
“We pray that the plea bargain agreement be adopted by the court,”he said.
The defence counsel, then urged the court to tamper justice with mercy in prosecuting the defendant.(NAN)
