Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of ₦766 billion for the fiscal year.

The signing ceremony took place at the Light House in Awka and also featured the assent of three other important legislative bills.

The budget, initially proposed at ₦757 billion, was reviewed by the Eighth Anambra State House of Assembly and subsequently increased to ₦766 billion following detailed legislative scrutiny. The approved appropriation provides the financial roadmap for the State’s development agenda, with strong emphasis on economic growth, infrastructure expansion, and improved social welfare services.

Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo described the budget as a strategic instrument rather than a mere financial document. According to him, the 2026 budget is designed to directly address the needs of Ndi Anambra while ensuring efficient allocation of public resources to priority sectors.

“This budget goes beyond figures; it reflects our commitment to delivering tangible results for our people. We focused on projects and programmes that will have the greatest impact on lives and communities,” the Governor said.

In addition to the appropriation law, Governor Soludo also signed three other bills into law. They include the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025; the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025; and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.

The Governor commended members of the State House of Assembly for their cooperation and diligence throughout the legislative process, noting that their contributions were instrumental in refining the budget and other laws.

“We submitted a draft budget of ₦757 billion, but after thorough reviews and constructive engagement, the Assembly approved a revised figure of ₦766 billion. With the budget now signed into law, implementation begins immediately,” Soludo stated.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, stressing that the newly enacted laws would strengthen service delivery and promote sustainable development across the state.

Present at the signing ceremony were the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme; Hon. Ejike Okechukwu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof. Sylvia Chika Ifemeje; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, alongside other top government officials.
