Anambra assembly confirms Onwuamaegbu as first substantive female Anambra chief judge

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Justice
Ijem Onwuamaegbu as the first substantive female Chief Judge of Anambra State.
The House confirmed her appointment during Friday plenary in Awka.
Justice Onwuamaegbu is the first female Chief Judge of Anambra State having satisfied the requirements of the law.
Speaker of the House, Mr. Uchenna Okafor read out her confirmation, while members of the House supported it through a voice vote .
Answering questions from the lawmakers at committee of the whole, the Chief Judge assured that she will reposition the Judiciary in Anambra and ensure that administration of Criminal Justice Law is applied correctly so that inmates do not stay behind bars for more than one hundred and fifty days stipulated by law before trial.
Also at plenary, the House confirmed the appointment of Mr. Alexander Onwuli as the Auditor General of Anambra State having satisfied the requirements of the law.
Supporting motion for adjournment, the member representing Njikoka 2 Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida urged the Executive Arm of Government to direct the Contracting Firm handling the construction of Nimo -Oyeagu
road to do remedial works there as the road is in deplorable condition.
He also appealed that urgent remedial works should be done at Convent, Iruegbe Primary school and Ekeudo Nimo portion of the road as the area is now impassable.
On his part, the member representing Idemili South Constituency, Mr. Chuka Ezenwune urged the Ministry of Environment and NEWMAP to arrest the erosion menace threatening Nnobi -Alor road to avoid casualties.
