Landlords and residents of Iyiowa Odoekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State have protested their exploitation and extortion by Odoekpe, their host community.

The protesters numbering carried their protest to Government House Awka, where they said through their spokesman and secretary of the Landlords and Residents Association, Dr. Chukwunonso Princewill, that the exploitation came to a head with the destruction and setting ablaze of about 30 vehicles and 10 buildings three weeks ago.

The protesters chanted freedom songs carrying placards which some of them read “Rescue us from our oppressors”, “Odoekpe is very hostile community, we are under siege of multiple taxation”, “Remove Barr Innocent Anosike as PG Odoekpe, He is the brain behind all the criminalities against us” .

Addressing the protesters, the Chief of Staff Staff (CoS) to Anambra State Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajugh, condemned the destruction of houses and cars of Landlords and residents of Iyowa-Odoekpe about three weeks ago.

The CoS expessed disappointment over such destruction which was carried against fellow Igbos in Igbo land.

He vowed that the State Government would take the unfortunate incident serious by dealing with the situation and the perpetrators.

He said Governor Chukwuma Soludo frowns at any form of violence and that is why he set up anti-tout group to arrest touring in the state, which he said has significantly reduced touting.

He said : “We are saying no to violence. The Governor wants security, law and order in the State. We will get to the root of the matter. We will invite the PG of the community. It is strange for people to destroy people’s property at will”.
