Eight Covid-19 patients in Anambra State have been declared healthy and fit to go home after their post treatment test for the virus returned negative.
This was made known in a public service announcement issued in Awka by the State’s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala.
According to him, Anambra State has successfully treated and discharged eleven Covid-19 patients out of a total of fourteen confirmed cases in the state.
Of the remaining three cases, Dr. Okpala confirmed that one escaped to Lagos State while the other two sadly succumbed to the deadly disease.
The Commissioner said that the eleven patients who recovered, including the index case were treated in the state’s protective care centres and discharged in record time.
Commissioner Okpala said that Anambra State will soon expand the scope of testing for Coronavirus as the mega PCR laboratory at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, is set to be confirmed as a Covid-19 testing centre.
He explained that there are five Abbott m2000 platforms in MEGA PCR laboratory at COOUTH Amaku, which can run ninety-four tests per cycle.
The Commissioner equally allayed fears expressed by Ndi Anambra over purported reports on social media concerning symptoms of fever and tastelessness by some residents of Onitsha.
He stressed the need for Ndi Anambra to avail themselves the opportunity of receiving quality healthcare by visiting a hospital for evaluation and treatment when they experience any of the worrisome symptoms.
The Health Commissioner also warned Ndi Anambra against relaxing in the face of the recorded successes and emphasized the need for everyone to be more alert and vigilant noting that the contagion is still active and remains very deadly.
