Anambra Governor, Obiano gives contractor end of July to complete International Conference Centre, Awka

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has given the Contractor handling the International Conference Center in Awka, end of July 2021, to complete the project.
He gave the directive when he embarked on inspection of the project in company of his wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano and other dignitaries.
Our correspondent reports that Chief Obiano, who explained that the State did not borrow funds to finance the project, expressed satisfaction with the architectural and engineering designs, as well as the overall quality of work.
Governor Obiano stressed that the only challenge is the pace of work, asking the Contractor to speed up.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Mike Okonkwo, who noted that the project is already at the finishing stage, as the roof covering is almost completed, described it as a multi-purpose edifice.
While stating that the COVID-19 challenge put a little hitch at the inception of roofing stage, the Commissioner explained that the project, which sits on nine hectares of land, has minimum of ten thousand sitting capacity, stating that one hectare was mapped out for world-class Hotel, assuring that the project will be delivered before the rain sets in.
The Contractor, Mr. Mark Tu, who apologized for not meeting the deadline, assured that they will continue to deliver standard work.
While the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okafor thanked the Governor for the laudable project, the former Governor of the Central Bank and a gubernatorial aspirant under APGA, Professor Charles Soludo, celebrated the vision of the Governor in building such legacy project, even as the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Sir. Willie Nwokoye spoke about the multiplier effect of the project on Anambra economy.
Meanwhile, Governor Obiano also embarked on inspection visit to Awka City Stadium.
The Chairman of Anambra State Sports Commission, Mr. Tony Oli said the Stadium will be beneficial to Ndi Anambra, just as the FIFA-certified Contractor handling the project, Engineer Ebby Egbe, explained that the project commenced six months ago, adding that what makes a Stadium is the pitch and the track, which are almost completed, with installations of synthetic grasses, among others.
The State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, Permanent Secretaries of various Ministries, among others, joined on the inspection visit.
