Anambra govt arraigns illegal revenue collectors before mobile court at Onitsha
In its continued drive to stop touting and illegal revenue collection in Anambra State, the State Ministry of Transport in collaboration with Focused Initiative Against Touting, (FIAT), has arrested illegal transport revenue collectors at Onitsha and environs.
The arrested touts were later arraigned before a mobile court.
The sad tales of how touts collect illegal revenue from motorist, transporters and others at different parts of the state with negative consequence necessitated the creation of FIAT to check such menace.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Christian Madubuko noted that Onitsha is notorious for touting and collection of illegal tolls, which according to him, manifested during the Yuletide with lots of complains, necessitating the ministry to immediately swing into action to stop such illegal activities.
Dr. Madubuko while warning that business will not remain as usual for such touts, given the enormous revenue the State is losing and the menace they are causing, announced that other parts of the State will not be spared and those arrested will face the full weight of the law.
Also speaking, the Head of FIAT, Mr. Okwudili Ohanazoeze while assuring that the entire state will be rid of touting activities with their presence across the twenty-one local government areas, appealed for the provision of vehicles to achieve their mandate.
The over fourteen arrested touts, including Obioma Chukwu, Igwe Leonard and Amobi Okeke, paraded with illegal revenue tickets and huge sums of money already collected before their arrests, were later arraigned before a mobile court though they denied doing any wrong.
