Anambra gov’t urges indigenes to disregard IPAC call for seizure of state LG funds

By Sunny A. David
Anambra State government has enjoined Ndi Anambra to disregard the call on the federal government, by the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, for seizure of funds accruable to twenty one local government areas of the State, till local government election is conducted in the State.
This is because such call is anti Ndi Anambra, as any seizure will jeopardize development of the State, even as the State government pointed out that it would be unconstitutional for the federal authorities to attempt to withhold any fund meant for local governments in the State.
Reacting on behalf of the State government, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, made it clear that seizing allocations for the council areas as long as the matter lasts, will bring further hardship against the people of Anambra State and the South-East who have endured several decades of marginalization and deprivation.
According to Commissioner Adinuba, this call is out of profound mischief, as question of elections into local governments in the State is the subject of litigation at the Supreme Court.
The Information Commissioner further says the call for the seizure of Anambra people’s funds amounts to sheer sabotage which only saboteurs and fifth columnists can engage in.
