Anambra State has been named Nigeria’s best performing State, taking the top position from Rivers in BudgIT’s 2025 State of States Report.
The annual report, which evaluates the fiscal performance of 35 States, measures financial sustainability, budget effectiveness, and investment in capital projects.
According to BudgIT, Anambra led the rankings this year, followed by Lagos, Kwara, Abia, and Edo rounding out the top five.
The performance marks a significant improvement for Anambra, which moved up from second place in the previous year’s assessment.
The State of States Report provides a comparative overview of how subnational governments manage resources and deliver development outcomes, offering insights into fiscal responsibility and governance across the federation.
