By Alphonsus Nweze, Onitsha
The President General of Ogbaru Main Market in Anambra State, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, has appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct security operatives to fish out those who are bent in causing trouble in the market.
Ochiogu also warned those linking his name with illegal shop seizures, threats of violence and injustice to henceforth stop forthwith to avoid facing the wrath of the law.
In a letter sent to the Governor through his lawyer, I.O. Onoiribholo, to discountenance the earlier petition by some traders in the market tagged: “Ogbaru Main Market In Turmoil, Call For Governor Soludo’s Urgent Intervention As Traders Cry Out Over Illegal Shop Seizures, Threat And Injustice” , Ochiogu stated that one Ifeanyi Eziaghala, Ernest Chibuike and his cohorts in a petition published on social media on July, 2025 through one Barr. Cyril Nkemjika stoked fears in the Ogbaru Main Market and Anambra State in general.
He said they also threatened protest with street urchins to destabilize and loot in Ogbaru Main Market as there is no trader planning to protest in the Market as traders are happy with the work of Ochiogu in the Market.
The letter which was made available to journalists in Onitsha was equally copied to Commissioner of Police, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Okpoko Police Station, Directorate of State Security (DSS), Anambra State, Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Trader and Market, Chief of Staff to the Governor amongst others.
The letter reads: ” Your Excellency, to put the records straight, in 2023, the petitioner and his cohorts who are also the plaintiffs in Suit No-AT/87/23 before commencing the above suit, wrote a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State on a spurious allegations of unlawful seizure of their shops by our client. The Police investigated the petition and found same to be false. Despite the Police investigation, the plaintiffs instituted the above mentioned suit against our client and later joined the state Government wherein our client also counter claimed against the plaintiffs for embarrassment and giving false information to the Police against our client which case is still pending before the court. On June 26, 2025, when the case came up, before the Court one Hon. Christian Ezenwoke came and applied to the court and intervened for settlement which the court obliged him”.
Continuing Ochiogu’s lawyer said in the letter: “Since 2023 this case started, one Innocent Ifeanyi Eziaghala has gone to the Police. He is the 2nd plaintiff in Suit No-AT/87/23.He has petitioned against our client to the Anambra State House of Assembly while the case is pending in court. He brought Hon. Christian Ezenwoke to court to apply for time to settle the case in the court while the same time petitioned you threatening to cause chaos and mayhem in Ogbaru Main Market and Anambra State in general with street urchins to destabilize and loot in Ogbaru Main Market”.
Onoiribholo equally said in the letter: ” the Attorney General of Anambra State and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry are defendants in Suit No-AT/87/2023″, stressing that it is “an eloquent testament of self betrayal to petition you with whom they are in court with through the Attorney General of the State, threatening protest and claimed to be law abiding persons without waiting for the outcome of the court”.
He said that the subject matter of their publication is already in the court, urging the publisher or petitioner and his cohorts to wait for the outcome of the case they have instituted in court if they are law abiding.
The lawyer unequivocally stated that if there is any break- down of law and order in Ogbaru Main Market, Ifeanyi Eziaghala and his cohorts should be held liable.
He also called on law enforcement agencies in the Anambra State to put Ifeanyi Eziaghala and his cohorts under surveillance and declare them as persons of interest in order to forestall any nefarious activities that will cause the breach of peace or breakdown of law and order in Ogbaru Main Market and the State in general with street urchins to destabilize and loot in the Market.
