The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming Anambra governorship election, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has denied reports of a disagreement with her party’s governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
In a statement issued by her Media Adviser, Tony Ezike, Ekwunife described the reports as “false and mischievous,” alleging that they were sponsored by elements within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to create disunity in the APC ahead of the November 8 election.
Ezike explained that the controversy followed the circulation of a video from the Anambra State Governorship Election Peace Accord held on Monday. The video, shared by Governor Charles Soludo’s media aide, Ambassador Izuchukwu Adichie, allegedly contained a manipulated voiceover aimed at portraying a disagreement involving Senator Ekwunife.
According to Ezike, eyewitnesses confirmed that Senator Ekwunife was formally invited to represent Prince Ukachukwu, who had not arrived at the venue when the event began. However, upon noticing Ukachukwu’s arrival, she courteously informed him that she would continue with her scheduled community visits since he was now present.
Ezike added that the APC State Chairman, Hon. Basil Ejidike, later asked Ekwunife to return and greet Governor Soludo, but she politely declined due to time constraints and ongoing engagements with constituents. Ejidike reportedly escorted her to her vehicle as she left the event peacefully.
The APC campaign team condemned what it called the “deliberate manipulation” of the video, accusing Governor Soludo’s media team of spreading misinformation for political gain.
“It is unfortunate that on a day meant to promote peace, the governor’s team chose to distort facts for propaganda purposes,” the statement read.
The APC urged Anambra voters to disregard what it described as “desperate distractions” from the APGA-led administration, stressing that the November 8 election should focus on policies and development ideas rather than propaganda.
“As the election approaches, Ndi Anambra can clearly see through the deceit and diversionary tactics of those afraid of accountability. The truth will prevail when the people cast their votes,” the statement concluded.
