Anambra State police have arrested a 19 year-old man in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Mr. George Onwurah, an elderly resident of Ndiukwuenu in Orumba North Local Government Area.
Chimaobi Mbonu was apprehended on June 12, 2025, by officers at the Awgbu Divisional Headquarters.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that preliminary investigations indicate Mbonu and accomplices kidnapped Onwurah in May 2024, collected a ransom, and then allegedly tortured and killed him.
The same gang is suspected of vandalizing a local health center, stealing medical equipment.
Mbonu is currently in custody while the Police are actively pursuing the remaining members of the gang.
