The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, has commended residents, community leaders, and security stakeholders for their cooperation and support during the just-concluded governorship election in the State.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner attributed the peaceful conduct of the election to the collective efforts of all stakeholders, including sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), traditional rulers, youth groups, and civil society organizations.
According to Orutugu, the calm and orderly atmosphere recorded across Anambra during the polls was the result of sustained collaboration and effective coordination among all parties involved.
He noted that this teamwork significantly enhanced the success of the Command’s election security operations, ensuring that voters exercised their rights in a safe and secure environment.
The Commissioner also praised officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, resilience, and commitment throughout the election period.
He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to maintaining public order and safeguarding lives and property across the State.
Orutugu urged residents to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious activities or individuals capable of threatening the peace enjoyed in the aftermath of the election.
He further recalled that prior to the election, the Command had embarked on a state-wide security advocacy campaign across various communities, engaging with traditional rulers, youth leaders, religious bodies, and market associations to promote peace, voter confidence, and community partnership.
The Police Command appealed to citizens to sustain the spirit of unity, tolerance, and mutual respect that contributed to the success of the polls, emphasizing that these values remain essential to Anambra’s continued peace and progress.
