By Sunny A. David, Awka

Awka residents received praises from Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, for the peaceful and successful 2025 Imo-Awka Festival.

The celebration was notable for its complete absence of crime and violence, according to a Sunday statement by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

CP Orutugu commended the community’s cooperation with security agencies and dedication to maintaining peace, urging other communities to emulate Awka’s example.

He highlighted the festival’s success as evidence of the positive impact of collaboration between citizens and law enforcement.

The Commissioner also emphasized Anambra State’s rich cultural heritage, citing festivals like Afia Oru, the New Yam Festival, and Ofala, as well as tourist attractions such as Agulu Lake and Ogbunike Cave.

He presented the State as a safe and attractive destination, showcasing its history, art, and natural beauty.

The CP acknowledged the crucial role of other security agencies, particularly the FRSC for effective traffic management and the NSCDC for operational support.

Their joint efforts were instrumental in preventing the unrest caused in previous years by individuals disguising themselves as festival participants.

CP Orutugu concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to inclusive policing, encouraging community input to enhance public safety and peace throughout Anambra State.
