Anambra security officer arrested for Nnewi killing

Following the fatal shooting of Chiamaka Okeke in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Tuesday, the suspected shooter, an officer from the Agụnechemba security outfit, has reportedly been identified and arrested.

Okeke was killed when the officer allegedly fired shots indiscriminately to clear traffic at Ibeto Junction, allowing his patrol vehicle to pass.

While initial reports from sources in the area identify the suspect as 36-year-old Chinedu Okonkwo, an Ezza, Ebonyi State native who recently joined Agụnechemba.

The Police Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga declined to confirm this information, stating that he had no such report.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has appealed for calm, assuring that the command is working with Agụnechemba to ensure justice is served.

He described the incident as regrettable and confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
