Anambra security operatives arrest 20-year-old suspect for armed robbery, defilement

Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Chigbo Umeugokwe from Umuezeiyi, Achina in Aguata Local Government Area, for alleged involvement in armed robbery and the defilement of a 13-year-old girl.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, officers attached to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, working with the local community security outfit, apprehended the suspect on November 11, 2025.
According to the Police, Umeugokwe allegedly stormed a shop in the community on October 29, 2025, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe.
He reportedly used a red polo shirt as a makeshift face mask during the attack. The suspect was said to have abducted a 13-year-old girl from the shop and taken her to a nearby bush, where he allegedly assaulted her. He also reportedly stole ₦30,000 from the shop before fleeing.
The Police added that the suspect gave a voluntary confessional statement during interrogation. Recovered exhibits include: one locally made single-barrel gun, one small axe and One red polo shirt used as a face mask.
The command confirmed that the suspect is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to secure justice for the victim and ensure offenders face the law.
