The Anambra State government has announced a series of significant developments, including the renaming of the newly-commissioned Government House to “Light House Awka,” and the approval of new contracts and institutional reforms.

These decisions, stemming from the June 2nd, 2025, Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting, are key components of Governor Soludo’s “Anambra Rebirth” agenda.

The newly-named Light House Awka, described as a “functional centre of governance,” will serve as the state’s administrative hub.

The name, according to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, reflects Anambra’s identity as “the Light of the Nation.”

The ANSEC meeting also lauded the success of the International Children’s Day celebration on May 27th and approved the creation of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, mandated by the newly-enacted Anambra State Electricity Act. A recruitment drive for the commission will commence immediately.

Further strengthening its commitment to child protection, the government announced the immediate closure and seizure of all premises used to house child beggars, in accordance with the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025.

Several new contracts were awarded, including: ₦190,482,467.94 to Strata Projects Ltd for the construction of a pharmaceutical-grade kaolin warehouse at the Anambra State Kaolin Plant, Ukpor (eight-week completion).

₦110,114,510.60 to Zamlic Ventures Ltd for the supply and installation of a 750 KVA transformer at the same plant (six-week completion).

₦155,653,550.00 to Analiro Enterprises Ltd for the procurement of new uniforms and operational gear for the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade).

Dr. Mefor highlighted these decisions as milestones in the Soludo administration’s efforts to redefine governance, rebuild state institutions, and foster a stronger civic culture.

The renaming of the Government House, he added, symbolizes a commitment to public service excellence and the establishment of a lasting legacy.

The new Government House, commissioned by President Bola Tinubu on May 8th, replaces a facility that had served the State for 34 years.
