The Anambra State government has pledged a thorough investigation into the alleged shooting death of a woman by members of the Agụnechemba security outfit (Operation Udo Ga-Achị).
Following social media videos showing angry residents protesting the incident in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area, the government has vowed to hold accountable any personnel found responsible for wrongdoing.
State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, condemned any unlawful killing, emphasizing that Agụnechemba’s mandate is to restore security, not create fear.
He acknowledged the outfit’s role in reducing crime but stated that any proven case of misconduct, including excessive force, will face severe consequences.
Dr. Mefor stressed the need for proportionate use of force by security personnel and confirmed the government is reaching out to the outfit’s commander to gather their account of the incident.
He also emphasized the need to speak to eyewitnesses and investigate the specific unit involved to get a clear understanding of the events.
The government assures the family and community of its commitment to justice and urges calm during the ongoing investigation.
