Anambra’s directive on markets’ closure gets total compliance

There is total compliance by traders in markets across Anambra State to the State government’s directive for closure of all open markets for fourteen days as part of the preventive measures geared towards ensuring that the State remains Covid-19 free.
This was discovered when our correspondent visited the popular and ever busy Onitsha Main Market, Onitsha Bridge Head Market, Ochanji Market, Ose Market and Ogidi Building Materials Market, to monitor activities of traders in the areas.
When our correspondent arrived the markets, it was observed that other parts of the markets apart from foodstuff shops, other shops were totally shutdown in compliance with the new order by the State government.

Speaking on the development, the President -General, Ochanja Market Dealers Association, Onitsha, Mr. Nelson Ojukwu who was at the market with other market leaders to ensure total compliance by the traders, reminded people that the new order by Governor Willie Obiano is for the good and safety of all, and as such should be collectively supported by Ndi Anambra to make sure that the State does not record any case of the Coronavirus pandemic until it is over.

Mr. Ojukwu called on people especially the wealthy to always give a helping hand to the less privileged to cushion the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak on them.
The President -General, who described the disease as presently incurable, advised Ndi Anambra to strictly abide by the preventive measures by the State government, to remain healthy and safe from the killer disease.
On their parts, some buyers at Ochanji Market, including Mr. Sam Okafor, and Mrs. Esther Nwanna while lamenting increment on prizes of all commodities in the market.
They called on both State and Federal governments to device a way of cushioning the effects of the pandemic on the populace, and advised traders not to see this trying time as an opportunity to make more profit from the consumers, rather to be considerate while hiking prizes of commodities.
