An Anglican priest, Rev. Ossy Oguaka, has advised those who want to live long not to live recklessly and carelessly.
Rev Oguaka spoke at Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State during the reception held in his country home after the Thanksgiving and his 70th birthday service organised for him and his wife Mrs Nmeka Oguaka by their children and held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Ojoto.
He noted that longevity is a gift from God but said something has to be attached to it for one to actually live long.
The cleric also advised parents to train their children in the fear of God ,so that when they grow up,they would not depart from it.
He said: ‘That has been my advice even whenever I preach in the church, I always tell them that they must raise their children in the fear of God because it is important”.
He thanked God for his faithfulness in their lives, saying: “that is why we went to church to appreciate him for what he has been doing for us, what he is yet to do for us”.
His wife, Mrs Nneka Oguaka, said her heart was full of joy especially for God’s blessings on her children.
She called on the mothers, a call she has been consistent in making to “always be meticulous in training their children because they are their future”.
She told mothers : “The way you make your bed, you will sleep on it.Try to correct them when they start erring. It does not mean you hate them, but you teach them the good way to follow. I steal do it up till today even to my grand children. I tell them not to be carried away by what they see in this life because there is a place we are going. If you don’t train them well, later you will suffer”.
Continuing Mrs Oguaka said: ” So I advise everybody to train her children especially in the fear of God .Teach them the way to go.It is not going to club or these places that corrupt them. That is not training children. Use the word of God. That is the foundation we used and they followed it till now”.
Earlier in his homily during a service held at St. Barnabas Ojoto by Ven. Vincent Igwebuike, he said the Oguakas had reason to thank the Lord.
He commended the children for celebrating their parents while they were still alive, saying that Rev. Oguaka patterned his life in away it pleases God and does things quietly and calmly.
The cleric thanked God that his years were not wasted but used it to serve God fervently.
Rev. Oguaka later announced one million donation on behalf of his family to the church in support of the 2025 Synod of the Diocese on the Niger, which the church would be hosting later this year.
The children also gifted them with a Toyota Car in appreciation for the solid foundation laid for them.
High point was presentation by the grand children during the reception at the country home.
