The Member representing Gassol I Constituency in the State Assembly in Taraba Hon. Abdullahi Muwalid narrowly escaped death on Saturday following a brutal attack on his convoy by angry political youths in Gassol town.
The lawmaker was, however, rescued with the timely intervention of soldiers and police stationed in Gassol town but the car he was traveling in and other vehicles on his entourage were seriously damaged by the angry youths.
An eye witness told our correspondent that Hon. Muwalid and his entourage who arrived Gassol town to attend a wedding ceremony of one of his political associates did not know that trouble was waiting.
It was gathered that immediately the lawmaker entered the town, the angry youths who were armed with sticks and stones quickly monilised themselves and blocked the only route leading out of Gassol town.
The youths who chanted ‘Ba tazarce’, Ba tazarce”, meaning ‘ no second term” no second term ” accused the lawmaker of neglect of their area and not attending to request and complains emanating from Gassol town.
They also passed a vote of no confidence in his leadership due to his poor performance and his inability to initiate a single bill since he was elected to represent the area over two years ago.
It was further gathered that Muwalid, before entering Gassol town for the wedding ceremony had earlier sent some of his cohorts to plead with the youths not to embarrass him whenever he arrived the town.
The youth in their numbers pretended not to have held any grudge against the member but the mob in deviant to his plea went ahead and ambushed him at the outskirt of the town until they attacked him and smashed several vehicles on his motorcade and inflicted several injuries on his train.
Apex News Exclusive reports that it took the quick intervention of Soldiers, Policemen and other security agents to rescue the lawmaker from the hands of the mob.
Efforts to reach the lawmaker, Abdullahi Muwalid, for his reaction did not yield positive results as he refused to pick all phone calls and messages put across to him.
