Anniversary: Nasarawa commits to inclusive governance, development

Nasarawa State Government on Wednesday said it committed to inclusive governance and overall development of the state in all sectors of the economy.

Mr Ibrahim Angbolo, the state commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism said this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia to mark Gov. Abdullahi Sule one year of his second term in office.

According to the Information Commissioner, it has been one year of consolidation of inclusive governance ; infrastructural development and economic growth in different sectors.

Angbolo said the state Government had strengthen educational sector having recruited about 8000 both primary and secondary schools teachers to address education deficit.

He said further that several schools cut across the 13 local government areas have been renovated.

Angbolo said upward review of teachers retirement age from 60 to 65 was testament of the government’s commitment towards education.

In health sector, the commissioner said the state government had recruited 2000 clinical and non clinical staff across tertiary, secondary and primary healthcare facilities in the state.

He said the state government had approved the sum of N250 million to revive the drug revolving scheme and also paid about N500 million as counterpart funding for the health insurance scheme for civil servants in the state.

“Agriculture sector also received a boost as the government key in into renewed hope agenda of President on agriculture, 13 trucks of fertilizers, farm inputs earlier this year were distributed at subsidised rate for dry season farmers.

“Government had also procured 23 tractors of about 300 earmarked for wet season farming through NG – CARES programme.

“The state had begun cultivation of 10,000 hectares acquired farm land for wet season farming at Jangwa in Awe and Agwatashi in Obi local government respectively.

“Under this administration, infrastructural development received a boost, the flyover and underpass in Lafia, state Secretariat, Masaka-Luvu road completed, dualization of the Akwanga township road which is ongoing, this is just to mention a few.

In the transportation sector, he said the state had built modern bus terminals in Karu and Lafia and launched hybrid (CNG) buses “The Nasarawa Luxury Ride” to ease transportation in the state and beyond.

“Information Commissioner said,” Oil drilling at Ebenyi, Obi local government area of the state by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC) is a bolster to the growth of Nassarawa state’s economy.

“The governor particularly set up a committee among other things to liaise with NNPC to ensure smooth and efficient execution of oil and gas project in the state.
