The much-awaited and expected declaration of interest from Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura for the race for the position of the national chairman of the APC, has been finally made open in the political space of Nigeria, especially for those under the platform of the ruling, All Progressives Congress, (APC).
This was after much groups that constituted in support of the former governor now senator representing the Southern Denatorial District of Nasarawa State, had consulted and launched campaigns in favour of the immediate past governor of the state.
The obvious and what has remain a mark of history in the declaration of senator Almakura is the fact that since the merger in 2018 the CPC bloc where Almakura was the only governor ,had not had a share of leading the APC to cause a balance in the marriage of the four political parties that eventually kicked out the then ruling PDP led government of them president Good luck Jonathan out of Power.
But as it hold today and the declaration of intention by Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, to contest for the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the party’s forth coming national convention, the much expectation from his supporters across the states would have been more energies to dust the tensions and uncertainties about the future of the APC,as only Almakura has the tendencies of uniting and moving the party beyond 2023.
Senator Al-Makura declaration of intention to contest the national position of the party was made known on Monday at Lafia East Primary School, during the grand finale of the local government chairmanship campaign of candidate of APC in Lafia local government area of the state.
He said his desire to campaign for the national championship of the APC was borne out of his conviction to safeguard the good tenets of President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
“I feel this time is auspicious and the venue of this grand finale is important. Today I take the opportunity of this grand finale to make a declaration about my aspiration to contest for the office of APC national chairman in the upcoming convention.
“I consider this important because this is my base, this is my Local government where my ward and even the zonal headquarters is. This is where my umbilical cord that gave rise to my political aspiration is”
“I, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, wish to contest for the position of APC chairman. I am doing this to ensure cohesion , party unity and to ensure that those values and attributes that came with the emergence of the legacy parties have been kept alive.”
The former governor was optimistic that he knew as a matter of fact he was one of those who participated in the merger exercise that Nigerians have shown unity and commitment to national harmony, to inclusiveness, to Nigeria politics.
He maintained that the reason being that all the legacy parties abandoned their tendencies of ACN in the south west, APGA in the east, ANPP in the north, and CPC in the north.
“But because of our quest, desire to ensure unity of purpose, direction, focus and vision for every Nigerian, we came together to form APC, and abandoned all those primordial sentiments.
“I believe at this material time, people who should manage the affairs of this party are people who know where the party was coming from, where the party is going.
“I can assure you if I become the national chairman, I will ensure equity, fairness, justice and ensure that those of our supporters who joined the party, even if it is today, are given a sense of belonging and participation” Al-Makura maintained.
