Governor Lalong of Plateau State

The Peoples Democratic party (PDP) in Plateau State has disclosed that the fight against the dreaded COVID-19, must not be seen as a fight the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) can handle alone.
It expressed its displeasure on the handling of the disease, which it said requires the input of major stakeholders irrespective of political, religious or any other consideration to succeed.
The Publicity Secretary of PDP, John Akans stated in a statement thay the APC and Governor Simon Lalong-led administration is sidelining them in the fight against Covid19, even when a part of the state has continued to suffer casualties in the deadly attacks being waged against the citizens by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Though the APC referred to the PDP statement as “irrational postulations”, the PDP particularly accused the governor of failing to “demonstrated expected visibility and inclusiveness to give hope and direction as well as to continue protecting life’s and properties of our dear people.”
According to the statement, “is evidently and soundly clear that the government of Lalong and the APC has failed to douse the already existing public apprehension at this difficult time when the public space is awash with uncertainties, the government and the APC in the state have not shown genuine leadership in the fight against the enemies of the people who are killing us everyday, and also this current unseen but dreaded pandemic virus.
“The failure of this present APC leadership has continued to endanger the lives of our people with a clear manifestation that the APC and Governor Lalong are only interested in their party because that is the only virus they know and understand which has infected their thinking faculty to the extent that they only think of what matters to them and who gets protected from COVID 19 and herders must be APC members”.
It added that “Our worry as a party with this projection is that even when there was no Coronavirus ( COVID 19) in the year 2016, 2017, 2018 to 2019, Governor Lalong performed below 25%. The question is…how will a government with poor budget implementation for the past four(4) years succeed?”
However, the APC has reacted to the accusations describing it as baseless and of no effect as far as its efforts at providing credible leadership in the state are concerned.
“The PDP, should not shelved its ignorance of the fact that its alleged, “herders must be APC members,” as it is again a plain truth that herders or whoever the killers are, they do not have regards to which political party one belongs to, rather they attack whoever they perceived as their enemy” Malam Bashir Musa Sati, State Secretary, said in a statement.
He disclosed that it was a fact that “despite the couple of attacks, people are enjoying more of peaceful coexistence than what was obtainable prior to this administration”.
According to him, “even as we condemned any attack and killings including the most recent one on our people, yet we make bold to say, making arrests of suspects shoulders on the security operatives, whom we trust are doing their utmost best to safeguard the lives of all in the state”, which the PDP should understand.
The party’s secretary added that the Coronavirus as a world pandemic, which has both health and economic implications on countries, states and individual person’s endeavours, which Plateau State is not exceptional and therefore, the PDP should be wisely enlightened.
