Members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Friday unanimously elected Danladi Jatau, representing Kokona East State Constituency as the new Speaker.
Jatau, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), became the speaker unopposed less than three days after the Appeal Court sacked the former speaker, Ibrahim Balarebe Abdullahi.
Mohammed Oyanki, representing the Doma South State Constituency on the platform of the PDP was elected as deputy speaker to replace Abel Bala of PDP of Nassarawa Eggon West, following his stepping down as Deputy Speaker.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, November 28, in its verdict, sacked Balarabe Abdullahi and declared Sa’ad Abdullahi Ibrahim of the PDP as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023 election for the Umaisha/Ugya State Constituency.
Before his removal by the court, Abdullahi was a member of the APC, who first came to the Assembly in 2015 and was elected speaker.
He was re-elected as a member and speaker in 2019 and returned in 2023, both as member and speaker.
Reacting to his election, Jatau said he would unite the assembly and sustain the cordial working relationship between the legislature and executive.
He appreciated the members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to carry all members along in the scheme of things.
