Appoint competent hands to save sports in Bauchi – Sports writers tell Governor Mohammed

Following the poor performance of the state in sports in the last 4 years due to appointment of wrong people, Bauchi State chapter of the Sport writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has called on Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed to appoint competent and capable persons to manage the sports sector in his next term.
According to SWAN, the call has become necessary, considering the dismal performance of the state in almost all the sporting activities it took part within the last four years despite the hug investment by government in sports.
“As stakeholders in sports, the state chapter of the sports writers has been monitoring the performances of all the appointees in the states sports sector,” it stated.
SWAN stated that, “and based on the outcome of events and the position Bauchi state occupies on the nations sports map, the change must occur in all arms of the state’s sports ministry and it must be those that knows the onions and have open minds towards working with all stakeholders in repositioning the sector.”
A statement signed by the Chairman, Mamuh Yakubu contained that,”As a sector with the potential of providing employment opportunities to multitude of youths in the state, appointing technocrats to mann the sector will help the Government expand and actualize its economic empowerment programme and equally return Bauchi state to it’s position of eminence in Sports.”
Recall that the state in the last 4 years did not do well in the sports sector as it could not participate in all the competitions organized, the height of it was the relegation of the State owned club, Wikki Tourists FC to the lower cadre of the football league in the country.
