Archbishop Okeke celebrates 65th birthday with prison inmates

The Catholic Archdiocesan Bishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Dr Valerian Okeke celebrated his 65th birthday with 1070 inmates of Onitsha prison. The occasion was marked with a Holy Mass at the prison premises.
Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke represented Governor Willie Obiano at the event.
In his Homily, the archbishop assured the inmates that the society and the church has not rejected them.
The cleric assured them that they are still brothers and sisters, and promised that the church will always support them to ensure they end up as good ambassadors to the nation, urging them to reciprocate every support given to them by leading exemplary lives.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Okeke while felicitating with the archbishop, prayed for longer life in prosperity.
According to him, Government of Anambra State has always showed concern to improve the living standards of the inmates in the prison.
Also present at the occasion were former Governor Peter Obi, traditional rulers, as well as the Comptroller of Prison Mr. Emmanuel Nwabueze.
The inmates received material gifts from the archbishop, including food, bottled water, toiletries and biscuits.
A car and building for skill acquisition were also donated to the prison.
Highlights of the event were cutting of birthday cake, commissioning of the building, presentation of gifts to winners in football competition, among others.
