Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has promised to sustain support for families of the fallen heroes and security agencies in the state.
Governor Sule made the promise at the occasion of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day on Wednesday in Lafia.
According to him, his administration will continue to support the families of the fallen heroes, especially the widows and widowers.
He said that the 15 of January every year offered an opportunity to remember the fallen heroes and to pray for the families they left behind.
The governor noted that the day also offered an opportunity to pray for the leaders and the present heroes to overcome the challenges being faced by the country.
“On the 15 of January every year, we remember and pray for our fallen heroes. This country has gone through a couple of wars, from the First to Second World War, all the way to so many other wars we have seen.
“This includes the major war we had from 1967 to 1970, during the period, we lost a lot of our heroes in all areas of our armed forces. So, we are here today to pray for them, to remember them, and to pray for the families they left behind.
“That is the idea about witnessing a day like this. So, we will continue to pray for them but while praying for them, we are also praying for leaders, and also pray for our current heroes,” he said.
Sule said his administration would continue to work in synergy with security forces and support them with logistics to be able to carry out their responsibilities in the state.
“Just two days ago, we went to Gitata where we had a security challenge, and we worked with our security forces to establish another military camp there to safeguard the people of Nassarawa State.
“I called on the people of Nassarawa state to work very hard and live in peace with one another, while also continuously supporting our security agencies with the intelligence and with information to enhance their operations,” he said.
ACG Hamidu Almajiri, Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Nasarawa State Chapter, thanked Gov Sule for prioritising the welfare of the families of the fallen heroes who put their lives in harm’s way to protect others.
“We give glory to almighty God for some of us who are still alive to observe and remember our fallen heroes, Gov Sule as a patron, is trying his best in prioritising the welfare of the families of the fallen heroes in the state,” he said.
