A total of 70 women drawn from Bauchi and Dambam LGAs of Bauchi State have been trained and equipped by a Bauchi based NGO, Attah Sisters Helping Hand (ASHH) Foundation with funding from Women for Women International.
The beneficiaries were trained in tailoring, Talia making, cosmetology and makeup under the skill acquisition programs of the collaborative effort aimed at empowering women to reduce poverty among them.
Speaking at the project closeup ceremony held at the Command Guest House, Bauchi on Tuesday, Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed commended ASHH Foundation in collaboration with the Women for Women (W4W) International for empowering women in the state.
The First Lady who was represented by the Commissioner of Cooperatives and Empowerment, Dr Bello Kirfi stressed that it is very important to train and equip the woman so that she can complement what the man is doing in providing for the family.

She assured that her office through her Foundation will ensure that the women and others were included in the government empowerment program in order to further assist them in boosting their petty businesses.
Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed strongly warned the beneficiaries not sell the items given to them but to ensure that they put them to use as they trained so that they too can be employers of labour.
In his remarks, Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman charged the women to ensure that they effectively put to practice all the trades they have been trained on and equipped.
The Speaker warned them not to sell the items given to them by the NGOs saying that doing so will amount to a wasted effort on both sides telling them that they are expected to make other women to benefit from the programme.
Speaking earlier, State Coordinator of W4W International, Mrs Gokwat Naomi said that the collaboration with ASHH Foundation was aimed at empowering women through skills acquisition in order to bring them out of poverty.
She commended the ASHH Foundation for effective and efficient implementation of the programme saying that the collaboration achieved its aims and objectives stressing that other collaboration is on the way.
Executive Director of ASHH Foundation, Ms Comfort Ene Attah explained that the training was aimed at empowering women to reduce poverty among them and make them self-reliant.
She further explained that the benefitting women were carefully selected in the two LGAs based on impromptu survey carried out by her NGO commending W4W International for providing the funding for the project.
The ASHH Foundation ED while saying that the project had closed up, assure that a new project will soon be launched to continue from where this one stopped.
