Rukayya Ishaq Bala, a final year student from Physics Department, Bayero University Kano, said she is making a little money from the processed food company she established at home due to the ongoing ASUU strike.
Rukayya, who called on other students of higher institutions in the country to go for entrepreneurship said she decided to start doing something instead of staying at home doing nothing.
“I established a home processed food products at home where I produced foods like Garin Danwake (Beans Dumpling Flour), Garin Kunun Tsamiya (Spiced Millet Powder) and Garin Kunun Tamba (Spiced Finger Millet Powder) three months ago, and the inspiration arose from the determination of not letting the ongoing ASUU strike affect me negatively,” she told our correspondent in her home in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

Rukayya, who started the business with the capital of Fifty Thousand naira from June, said the amount is increasing day by day and she is glad to have realized her potential, “and my hope is that this business continues to excel in producing the best products, even after schools resume, God’s willing.” She added
She expressed with optimism that getting any form of support from the government would do a lot; first, by helping the business to grow faster and easier, and secondly, will enable her create jobs for a number of young Nigerians.
“I have four goals that I want to achieve in my life. First, I want to be a business tycoon that will be known, worldwide. Second, I want to be a University lecturer. Third, I want to become the Minister of Education in Nigeria, in order to set things right in the educational sector and lastly, I want to meet my Lord when He is the most pleased with me.”
She called on the government to see to the demands of ASUU because their importance to the society cannot be overemphasized. “It might look like they are exploiting the nation but with wisdom, you will realize that they deserve it.” She said
“Nevertheless, i will call upon ASUU to be lenient in their pursuit as so many depend on them for a better future and the nation as a whole is suffering from their actions. Sacrifice is a bitter pill to swallow but it cures quite a lot.
“And for the students, i think this is an opportunity for you to unleash your potentials, for you to choose to be independent, to be financially stable and add to the growth of Nigeria. Use this strike period wisely by engaging in entrepreneurship. Learn, practice and unleash,” she added.
