Auto industry stakeholders in Nigeria urged to achieve UN’s 2021-2030 road safety decade

Stakeholders in the Nigeria’s automotive industry have been urged to key into President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to see the country attain an enviable position in the comity of nations especially as it relates to United Nations General Assembly’s Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.
The President, Automobiles And Road Safety Initiative, Samuel Oloyede Oriowo, made the remarks at the 10th year anniversary celebration and 2nd Nigeria Annual Automotive Industry Award presentation ceremony in Lagos.
As such, he called on Toyota Motor Corporation as this Award Day is specially dedicated to celebrating their unparallel automobile engineering brilliance, to donate various automobile practical training equipment to the West Africa Automotive Institute initiated by the organization.
According to him, the institute would enable future automotive technicians in the West African sub-region to learn in a superlative environment that can only be of encouragement to the younger generations to embrace this noble profession.
Oriowo noted that the organization strongly believed it will be of greater advantage to Toyota Motor Corporation in continual accomplishment of expert repairers of its products.
The President said there is a subsisting rental challenge on a property that was to be the automotive training institute at Ilesa, Osun State early this year, there is ongoing conversation with the Federal Government of Nigeria to concede one of its agencies’ properties situated in Osun State to the institute to use as campus.
He explained that if the property is handed over to the organization, the training activities will commence there-in in January, 2024.
Though, Oriowo said no doubt that universities and polytechnics are doing so much to train engineering graduates to manage technical challenges at the workshops, the Institute is established to address the obvious gaps therein and to train and re-train younger people from communities and colleges on the best and most authoritative technics of automobile maintenance.
On the award, the Board of Trustees of the Initiative established the Nigeria Annual Automotive Industry Award basically to celebrate and reward the best performance and the brightest of the Nigeria Automotive Industry Stakeholders.
According to him, Awards in the local automotive industry in the country are pegged to appreciation of developments of the various automobiles, automobile products as well as the automobiles’ products producers.
In the nearest future, the President noted, the Board of Trustees of the Initiative will be laying much emphasis on the various governments’ drive at making the vehicles last on the Nigerian Roads, with the provision of lasting motor-able, vehicle-worthy roads to the motorists across the country.
