Azia Igweship tussle: Investigative panel visits Obi Umudiokpala village, Azia

Members of the Investigative Panel of Inquiry into the Azia Igweship tussle have visited the Obi of Umudiokpala Village Azia, Obi Christopher Okoli, in their quest to unravel the truth about the Igweship crisis.

It is the turn of Umudiokpala Village, Azia in Ihiala Local Government Area to produce the next Igwe of the Community, and the two contestants of the Igweship stool, Professor Titus Eze and Ogbuefi Ifeanyi Mmuo hail from the same village.

Briefing newsmen after meeting with Obi Okoli, the Chairman of the panel, retired Justice Chinyelu Anigbogu said that under the law, when one is taking evidence from witnesses, the person is permitted to go and take evidence from a witness who is either sick or incapacitated, and Obi Okoli is sick, hence the visit by the panel members.

Justice Anigbogu further explained that meeting Obi of Umudiokpala Village became Paramount, due to the fact that the two contestants referred to the roles the Obi played during the Igweship selection, which was why they visited him to hear his testimony.

Speaking earlier, the Obi of Umudiokpala Village Azia, Obi Christopher Okoli who is ninety -six years old told the panel the nitty gritty of all the roles he played, what he did and otherwise, which he said will help the panel to know the truth about the matter and make recommendations to the state government.

Some panel members present during the visit were, it’s Secretary, Comrade Nwabufo Nwankwo, the traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Rowland Odegbo, his Ukwulu counterpart, Igwe Peter Uyanwa, that of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday Okafor.

Others were, a former Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi and the representative of the Attorney General of Anambra State, Barr. Mrs. Nneka Adimma.
