Bauchi commences lmplementation of $2m environmental projects in selected 45 communities

Bauchi State Government has secured $2 million environmental control and management projects to be executed in 45 communities across the 20 local government areas of the state. 

The disclosure was made by the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir during the stakeholders meeting of the project held on Wednesday at the Command Guest House. 

The Project which is a collaboration between the State, Federal Government and World Bank has four major components that include Dryland Management, Community Climate Resilience, Institutional Strengthening and Emergency Response.

Under the Project, eight communities of Gwaram, Gololo, Gwallagan Mayaki, Duguri, Cheledi, and Sulaiman Adamu were identified to benefit from major projects that would address critical aspect of environmental challenges including flood control project, bridges and drainages construction as well as construction of Water Retention wall.

At a stakeholders engagement on the implementation of the project in Bauchi, Bala Mohammed noted that the state has paid N500m as counterpart fund to attract the intervention in view of its impact on the lives of people.

According to him, his administration would not renege in supporting programmes aimed at providing solution to communities being bedeviled by environmental related challenges.

In an addresses, the Acting National Project Coordinator, Ayuba Anda who was represented by the Project Monitoring Specialist, Engr. Mukhtar Yakubu Tanko congratulated the state for securing the grant and called for effective implementation.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner, Ministry  of Housing and Environmental Hamisu Mu’azu Shira and State Project Coordinator, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim charged the benefiting communities and relevant stakeholders to provide all the needed  cooperation towards achieving success.

After the four days stakeholders engagement a road map for the implementation process would be released and implementation will commence.
