Bauchi environmental protection agency plants 270 trees to commemorate International Forest Day

No fewer than 270 trees were planted in Bauchi Street as facilitated by Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) in commemoration of the International Forest Day.

The Director General, Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Dr Kabir Ibrahim speaking to newsmen in this regards said, “We can’t do without Forests, we have to produce to consume and as far as environment is concerned, the issue of sustanibilty is the Key.

“We need to think of how we can come up with policies and activities which are sustanaible, a sustanaible policy is the type of policy that you do it today, it will last tomorrow and the next and at the same time, you are using it and consiserinf future generation ” the DG said.

He added that if each person is to plant a tree, nurture and nourish it to growth, it would go a long way in creating a healthy and safer environment.

According to him, 95 percent of all environmental problems including desert encroachment, flooding and other catastrophes can be solved through tree planting.

Also speaking, a Professor of Veterinary Microbiology Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Prof. Usman Sarki Abdullahi admonished the public to key into the tree-planting agenda to help address environmental issues.

The Theme is for the 2022 International Forest Day is “Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumption”.
