Bauchi Governor directs return of salary payment to LGs in line councils autonomy, verification to end salary problems

Verification of staff with problems of salary payment in Bauchi

In line with the autonomy granted to local government councils in the country, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has directed that henceforth, salaries of local government areas must be paid by the respective councils in the state. 
The Governor also directed that the 20 local government councils in the state should collaborate with the Office of the Accountant General of the State in conducting verification of Staff who have problems in accessing their salaries. 
Speaking in Alkaleri LGA on Thursday during the verification exercise, Deputy Accountant General (Inspectorate), Mohammad Sagir Abdullahi explained that the exercise is just to identify those staff with problems in order to be able to sort them. 
He explained that some of the problems are name mismatch, wrong BVN number, accounts in micro finance banks that do not have the 10 number digit assuring however that so far over 90 percent of those with problems have been sorted. 
The committee working In his remarks, Executive Chairman of Alkaleri LGC, Yusuf Garba disclosed that out of the over 1000 staff of the Council on 200 of them are having problems with their salaries assuring that as soon as they are cleared, they will be paid their salaries without delay. 
The Council Chairman added that, “as I am talking to you, we have enough funds in our bank account to immediately settle all those cleared. The government is not ready to deny people of their legitimate benefits”. 
Yusuf Garba who is the ALGON Chairman in the State said that, “on behalf of the Chairmen, I thank the Governor for returning payment of salaries to the LGAs. It is indeed a demonstration of democracy in action, the administration is for the people by the people”. 
He then assured that in the next one week, the verification will be completed and all outstanding salaries will be paid without further delay in line with the resolve of the administration to ensure justice and fairness to all.
