Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has called on traditional rulers in the state to as a matter of urgency appeal to their subjects to enroll their children and wards in schools across the state.
The Governor who could not hide his disappointment, decried the low enrolment of pupils in the state in spite of the huge investment of government in the educational sector.
The Governor made the call on Sunday during the handing over ceremony of some constituency projects sponsored by the Representative of Ganjuwa/Darazo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mansur Manu Soro held at the Bauchi campus of the State University in Yuli.

Bala Mohammed noted that his administration introduced food incentive to pupils in the schools in order to encourage them to be in school but lamented that even that was not good enough to attract the children to the school neither did it interest the parents to force them.
A visibly worried Governor however pleaded with parents and guardians to allow their children attend the schools classes built by his administration using billions of Naira saying that since coming as an administration, over 3000 blocks of classrooms have been built across the state.
Bala Mohammed said that, “The Commissioner of Education has spoken about one issue that is worrying me and that is the issue of enrollment. We have renovated schools, we have provided welfare in terms of supply chains of the food and facilities, but we don’t have enrollment”.
Going down memory lane, the Governor said that, “When I was growing up, my father was a District Head, he used to call the Village Heads and reprimanded them to make sure that parents sent their children to school. We have to go back to the old days to force parents to send their children to school, we cannot avoid such aberration” .

Bala Mohammed stressed that, “So, I’m calling on their Royal Highnesses, the Emirs, the District and Village Heads to put heads together with the government to make sure that enrollment was improved. Otherwise, the spate of out-of-school children, criminality would not stop,”.
He then appreciated the member representing Darazo/Ganjuwa federal constituency of Bauchi state, Mansur Manu Soro for his outstanding performance in the House of Representatives especially good representation of his constituents.

According to him, “These kind of interventions will reduce burden on the part of the state government, representation will only be meaningful if you are in touch with your people. I must appreciate Honorable Mansur Soro for improving the wellbeing of his people through various projects.”
