Against all odds, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has won his reelection for another 4 years tenure.
The Governor fought stern opposition from all fronts to be able to swim to victory considering the coalition formed and led by the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Barrister Yakubu Dogara as well as, Elder Statesman, Bello Kirfi who all vowed to ensure that he did not win.
Also, some of his close aides including the Deputy Governor, Sen Baba Tela, the PDP State Chairman, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, DG, PDP gubernatorial campaign council, Farouk Mustapha as well as some Commissioners lost their various LGAs.
However, the official Governorship Election Results declared by the Bauchi State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicated that the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir won his reelection for another 4 years tenure.
Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir was the candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who sought reelection for a second term.
INEC declared full results from the 20 LGAs of the state which showed that the PDP and its gubernatorial candidate, Bala Mohammed won in 15 LGAs while the APC and its candidate, Saddique Abubakar won in 5 LGAs.
The results were declared by the INEC Governorship Election Coalitions and Returning Officer, Prof Abdukarim Sabo Mohammed, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa state in the morning of Monday.
According to Prof Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, the PDP Gubernatorial candidate, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir polled a total of votes 525,280 to defeat the APC candidate, Saddique Abubakar who polled a total of 432,272 votes.
He disclosed that the total number of registered voters in the state is 2,749,268 while the number of voters accredited for the 2023 gubernatorial elections was 1, 058, 381, total valid votes, 1034379, rejected votes, 15222 and the total votes cast 1049600.
The Returning Officer stated that, “By the powers on confer on me by the Electoral Act and as the Chief Collation and Retuning officer of the 2023 Gubernatorial elections in Bauchi state, I, Prof Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, hereby declare that Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, having scored the highest number of votes cast is hereby declared elected.”
Most of the political parties representatives at the INEC Collation Centre commended INEC and the security agents for the near smooth conduct of the elections.
Though they agreed that there is no perfect election anywhere in the world, they called on INEC and other relevant agencies to do better in subsequent elections in the country.
They however expressed worries over the issues of over-voting in some of the polling units across the state calling for urgent intervention to stem the tide in order to make the electoral process more acceptable.
