Bauchi introduces electronic traffic regulation to check accidents, generate revenue

Few days after Bauchi State House of Assembly decried reckless of commercial tricycle riders in the state which has led to death of many people, the State Government has declared that it will introduce Electronic Road Traffic Regulation in order to address the incessant traffic violation and accidents among road users.
Briefing Journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting, State Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Aminu Hammayo explained that the initiative will also serve as a means for revenue generation as well as exposing the state to modern system of road traffic management.
The Commissioner who said that the memo emanated from the Ministry of Finance, it was presented to SEC by him after which a decision was reached during the Council meeting presided over by the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir. 
The state Commissioner also noted that the arrangement of the implementation of the initiative is under the public private partnership between the state government and a private body.
Aminu Hammayo said under the arrangement, the government will provide all the needed support to the State Traffic Management Agency (BAROTA) including employment of staff while the company is to take charge of deployment of ICT facilities and manpower training.
Still during the meeting, the Council ratified the report of the White paper on the Administrative Committee  earlier constituted to look into the problem of land disputes between farmers and herders and illegal allocation of land and public properties across the twenty local government areas of the state.
The Commissioner of land and regional  Planning, Yakubu Barau Ningi said that a Committee was constituted to ensure proper implementation of the Committee’s  recommendations to bring a lasting solution to the problem.
The council also deliberated and approved a memo presented by the ministry of minerals resources on the need to regulate mining activities in the State.
Addressing the council members earlier, Sen Bala Mohammed said that the State is determined to leverage on the transport sector to improve it’s internally generated revenue.
