Bauchi NYSC conducts one day medical outreach in host community

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has conducted a one day free medical treatment for Wailo community in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State where the Permanent Orientation camp of the Service is located. 

The community was full of commendation for the NYSC members for embarking on the service to humanity as a part of its community service to the people. 

The Village Head of the community, Malam Iliyasu Musa made the commendation on behalf of the community in Wailo during the flag-off of the one-day medical outreach to the people of the community by NYSC.

Iliyasu Musa said that the gesture would significantly address health challenges of the people in the area.

According to him, “I would like to appreciate the coming of this programme into our community because this is the first time I will be seeing the management of the NYSC in our community with this kind of life saving programme.” 

The traditional ruler added that, “We appreciate it because this NYSC has been here for over 20 years but nothing like this has been done for the community as its host community.” 

He added that, “But the state Coordinator has brought this intervention here today and you are highly appreciated,”

Also speaking, Hon. Dayyabu Ladan, Member, representing Ganjuwa East at the State House of Assembly, said that the programme would go a long way in assisting their people from the villages to have access to healthcare services which they may not have had access to.

Represented by one of his Aides, Mr Suleiman Mato, the Lawmaker said that, “I heard the state Coordinator saying that there are different kinds of drugs to be administered to the patients.” 

He also said that, “And in a situation where the sickness has gone beyond the outreach, it would be referred to either the state Specialist or Teaching hospital.

In her speech, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, explained that the outreach was initiated under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

According to her, the programme is designed to enhance access to quality healthcare service delivery in hard to reach and rural communities across the country.

She listed some of the ailments to be treated to include malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, and diabetes, among others.

Rifkatu Yakubu, stated that the outreach is open to as many people as possible in the community, adding that the NYSC medical team was highly prepared for the exercise.

According to her, “We urge all members of this community to avail themselves in order to benefit.” 

“Let me use this medium to thank the Director General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Yushau Ahmed who graciously approved the execution of this programme for the benefit of the Wailo community,” she concluded.
